The Uneasy Relationship Between Databases and HDF5

From the perspective of HDF5, I would compare the relationship between HDF5 and databases to unrequited love. Scarred from broken information-carrying links, we look to the closed world of the relational model as a place of bliss. Over the years, there have been many attempts and ideas to share in the joys by aiming SQL at HDF5. The absence of even one resounding success hasn't and won't deter us: we can't stop loving databases. In this presentation, we highlight some of the renewed interest in a closer relationship and explain why we believe that the time has come for a renewed effort.
