This web page describes the NSIDC MODIS HDF-EOS2 files.

HDF-EOS2 Swath files

All the HDF-EOS2 swath files have 1 swath and two dimension maps. The following table summarizes the information collected for the files:

HDF-EOS2 (Swath)	2MB	Lat/Lon = 2D	2D	Both geolocation field and datafields have ‘units’ and ‘long_name’ attributes.

HDF-EOS2 grid files

The projection is GEO,LAMAZ or SNSOID. The following table summarizes the information collected for the files:

* Some software tools requires extra steps to retrieve latitude and longitude for SNSOID projection;
**The HDF-EOS2 library can retrieve the latitude and longitude correctly for file whose projection is LAMAZ.
