Level 3 Products for MLS on EOS Aura

The Earth Observing System (EOS) Microwave Limb Souder (MLS) is an atmospheric remote sensing experiment led by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory of the California Institute of Technology. The objectives of the EOS MLS are to learn more about the stratospheric chemistry and causes of ozone changes, processes affecting climate variablility, and pollution in the upper troposphere. The EOS MLS is one of four instruments on the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) EOS Aura spacecraft mission launched on July 15, 2004. MLS has been producing, archiving and distributing Level 2 products to users and investigators since February 2005. They have been publically available since August 2005. The MLS Level 3 software is currently under development and will be released before August 2006.

MLS will present information about its Level 3. This will describe the Daily and Monthly products and metadata files to be produced, their data formats and structures, namely the Swath, Grid and Zonal Mean types contained in HDF-EOS, the emerging Aura-wide Guidelines for Level 3 products, and finally how use is made of the software SDP Toolkit version 5.2.13 and HDF-EOS 5 library version 5.1.9.
