New HDF Utilities: diff, repack, jam

Several new utility programs have been added to the HDF4 and HDF5 software distributions, and older tools have been enhanced.

The new tools for HDF4 include:

• hdiff -- compare two HDF4 files, report differences
• hrepack -- rewrite an HDF4 file, optionally specifying compression or other storage parameters

The new tools for HDF5 include:

• h5diff -- a command line tool that compares two HDF5 files, and reports the differences between them.
• h5repack -- a command line tool that performs a logical copy of all the HDF5 objects in an input HDF5 file to an output HDF5 file, optionally rewriting the HDF5 datasets with compression and chunking. The tool can also be used to apply any of the predefined HDF5 filters to a dataset
• h5jam/h5unjam -- add/delete arbitrary .user block. in front of HDF5 file
